I welcome you all to Understanding the Dog School. This is the place where I teach dog owners about the depths of their four-legged friend with the sole purpose that in time the bond between the two becomes unbreakable.
Start exploring. Enjoy the journey.
Hello Dog Lover 💙 and once again I Welcome you to my World 🌎 filled with adventures which are the result of my passion ... working with and for the good of dogs.
I landed on this 'dog runway' accidentally. It started 25 years ago when someone, back then important part of my life, made a suggestion: 'Let's have a dog!' and I went along.
Little did I know dogs would become such huge part of my personal and professional life.
Do I separate 'professional' and 'personal'? No, not really. These two aspects are closely linked together, where one ends starts the other, always interwinding, merging one into the other.
I consider dogs to be my partners. It doesn't matter if they are my 'personal' dogs or the ones being trained for others ... while living with me and being educated by me there are mine. And long after they are in their new homes they are still somehow huge part of my existence.
I just love them so much. Even knowing that there is end somewhere along the way (when the training is done) doesn't change the feeling of love. I am sure that one can't teach the dog if there is emotional gap between the two, the dog and the owner, or in this case the trainer. Dogs sense when person doesn't take them all in and they respond with withdrawal. Once that happens nothing can be learned.
As a dog trainer (or as I prefer to be called 'dog teacher') I put my heart and soul combined with the knowledge and experience into dogs' schooling.
You are completely safe under my care ... so I welcome you to join in my on-line dog schooling classes: I guarantee that your life with the dog you have been blessed with will become a treasure you will cherish long after everything comes to an end.
Pax was the dog I took in, taught him all he needs to live a happy life with his family.
It all started two and a half decades ago with my first dog, Labrador retriever Neva.
My story about the beginnings is not much different from a lot of dog teachers out there.
Neva is 'to blame' I have started on the path of becoming a dog teacher amongst other dog related titles.
Her character was just not the right one for the general training principles of those times. And to make things even more complicated she was my first dog. Her personality was absolutely strong, unforgiving, stubborn, larger than life and so much more.
When one didn't know how to approach her schooling in the right sensible and thoughtful way, one ran into loads of trouble.
Meaning, she needed and demanded understanding, patience, love and boundaries that she could make sense of. She was against any kind of physical punishment, threats and injustice. When that happened, and it certainly did happen because that was the way things were done in those days, she became irritated to the point of biting.
She didn't leave me much choice ... I had to start learning new, in those days revolutionary methods of teaching the dog. Needless to say I am now deeply grateful for that. How hopeless I felt back then I'd rather not explain. Fortunately that is water under the bridge. Undoubtedly she was the One that pushed me into the right direction ... the right direction is hidden behind the phrase which has become the name of my dog school 'understanding the dog' ...
I stepped onto the path of wanting to understand the dog back then and I have never left it ... to this very day I am still striving and searching for unexplored ways in getting to know the dogs' personalities inside and out.
I am proud to say that nowadays I read dogs. Their silent yet so loud non-verbal language, their energies, emotions, reactions ... I am familiar with every aspect of their natural instincts, their needs, wants, likes, dislikes ... they tell me everything ... there are no secrets, no hidden agendas, they speak of their inner world without even raising their voices, in complete trust, silence they scream about how they are dealing with the outside world ...
Yes. It is about understanding the dog ... once you do you are blessed with the opportunity for a satisfying life ... partnership between two species who need and depend on each other ...
While teaching the dog, the dog is the centre of my intention ... he comes first ... I always take into consideration his wellbeing, harmony, emotional and energetic stability ... without calmness there is no going forward ...
Dog has to feel great, satisfied so the message we are sending can fall on fertile ground. Avoiding conflict is of the outmost importance. Using prevention (tools) and food as a prey concept is the natural way in which dogs are taught ... and dogs understand and love natural way.
Mind this as well. Dogs need purpose. They came into this life and onto this earth with a chosen purpose ... depending on the owner and the environment ... they are the ones who have made the decision and our moral obligation as partners is to make achieving that goal possible.
Since my humble beginnings I have gathered tones of knowledge, experience in theory and practice ... so now I can be of service to the dogs everywhere. I have taught thousands of dogs and their humans, not only in Slovenia but abroad as well. Dogs are more or less the same, only with mild differences depending on the environment. But at the core or their essence is the same .... They are social animals, love the company and partnership of their human, love doing the work they were created to do, enjoy using their senses, nose in particular ... they need lots of rest, and quality sleep, food, shelter in the proximity of their fellow companions, being humans or other animals.
Dogs are the best teachers and we, owners, handlers, people are in so many ways dogs' pupils.
